Many clients call me asking if its possible to paint a wooden kitchen? This can be done and is shown in the following blog.

The photos that were emailed to me furthermore showed a good quality maple kitchen. The client didn’t particularly want to go to the expense of complete removal. The option presented to her was to paint the existing doors. A price and colour were firstly decided, 2 x colours, with the deeper colour on the base cabinets. Kitchen cabinet painter Brackley

First and foremost the doors were removed, numbered and brought back to my workshop. This is particularly a huge advantage to the homeowner as most of the work is done off site. This indeed allows the kitchen to be used  as normal. Kitchen cabinet painter Brackley

The fixed items, i.e.: end panels, framing, mouldings, were painted insitu.

The doors had a clean down using a good quality degreasing agent (Fluxaf) and were then prepped for painting. It should be noted also that I chose to use a shellac based adhesion primer to make the bond to the lacquered surface. This primer is certainly a go to primer for me on all lacquered doors.

Preparation is key!

The photo above without doubt shows the level of colour and finish that can be achieved on to a wooden lacquered surface. The prep is key! Many times I see a lack of preparation which can result in the breakdown of the paint film. The reason for this is no prep = no mechanical adhesion. A term often used by a specialist kitchen painter is “Mechanical adhesion” basically providing a key on the surface to be that is to be painted.

A fantastic transformation to this wooden kitchen. A brand new look at a fraction of the cost to replacement. More to the point is a lot less disruption and a lot easier on the pocket.
