Changing a stunning wooden kitchen to a hand painted kitchen in Chesham Bois, Bucks

I was contacted back in early 2021 by a lovely client in Chesham Bois who needed advice with regards to her kitchen.

Initially a hamlet in the parish of Chesham, the manor was assessed at 1½ hides in the reign of King Edward the Confessor. The estate belonged to a brother of King Harold, who was killed with him at the Battle of Hastings and probably William the Conqueror gave this ‘royal’ land to his own half-brother, Odo Bishop of Bayeux.

The village also gets its name from the de Bosco family (the French version of which was ‘de Bois’) and by 1213 in the reign of King John a William du Bois was holding the manor.[2] By about 1430, in the reign of Henry VI, the manor had been acquired by the Cheynes of Chenies who remained for over 300 years, before conveying the manor to the Duke of Bedford in 1735.

Chesham Bois House, the site of the manor, was the subject of an archaeological excavation by television programme Time Team, which was broadcast in the United Kingdom on Channel 4 in March 2007. Kitchen cabinet painter Chesham

Chesham Bois

Famous people born in Chesham Bois were the crime writer and composer Edmund Crispin, Lieutenant Commander Peter Scawen Watkinson Roberts, who was awarded the Victoria Cross for gallantry in the face of the enemy during World War II and Mervyn King, former governor of the Bank of England. The client sent several photos to me showing some of the issues she was having with the kitchen. She also pointed out that the pull out bin no longer worked and several drawers did not close properly.

Minor adjustments!

These are tasks which can be repaired, however I make no promises as to whether they can be rectified. On this occasion all doors, drawers and even the bin were fixed and re aligned so that they were all functioning properly.

Many projects that I carry out, the doors are  removed and taken to my workshop. This simply reduces my time on site and it also minimises disruption.

Kitchen Colours!

We spoke about colour choices. It was agreed that 2 x colours similar to Old White and Stiffkey Blue would be used. The client initially considered painting the large tall cabinet in Blue. I mentioned that it could potentially look very heavy in that part of the room.

I try to offer as much advice as I can when it comes to colour. Ultimately, he choice always lies with the client.

After cleaning down, sanding, priming and top coating. The finished product looked superb.
