Milton Keynes

In the 1960s, the UK government decided that a further generation of new towns in the South East of England was needed to relieve housing congestion in London. This new town (in planning documents, ‘new city’), Milton Keynes, was to be the biggest yet, with a target population of 250,000 and a ‘designated area’ of about 22,000 acres (9,000 ha). At designation, its area incorporated the existing towns of Bletchley, Fenny Stratford, Wolverton and Stony Stratford, along with another fifteen villages and farmland in between. kitchen cabinet painter Milton Keynes

First contact with the client

A lady contacted me purely to enquire if her kitchen was worth saving. She also wanted to find out if it was possible to still use her kitchen during the painting process.

We arranged a site visit and furthermore went over the options, including the pros and cons to painting her kitchen cabinets. kitchen cabinet painter Milton Keynes

This kitchen in particular needed a lot of filling simply because of the way in which the doors were manufactured. The wood that was also used needed a fine layer of filler over each knot. This sounds like a huge job! In this case, after a layer of adhesion primer is applied, it highlights the areas that need filling and makes it somewhat easier during the filing process. kitchen cabinet painter Milton Keynes

The plate rack can certainly offer challenges when it comes to painting. It can also be advisable to just clean the racks and have them left in wood to form a nice contrast. In this case, the racks were left in wood.

The doors and drawers were removed and taken back to my workshop for re finishing. A good clean down, sand and a adhesion/stain block primer was used on this particular project. This was to avoid any tannin bleed from the knots.

The kitchen on completion.

As a result, there was no bleed from the knots and furthermore the plate rack looks really good. kitchen cabinet painter Milton Keynes

It shows just what can be done to a tired looking kitchen for a fraction of the cost. Also very little disruption and the kitchen was accessible throughout the painting process.
