Re painting a nice in-frame kitchen in Thame, Oxfordshire

Thame  is a market town and civil parish in Oxfordshire, about 13 miles east of the city of Oxford and 10 miles southwest of Aylesbury. It derives its name from the River Thame which flows along the north side of the town and forms part of the county border with Buckinghamshire. The parish includes the hamlet of Moreton south of the town. Thame was founded in the Anglo-Saxon era and was in the kingdom of Wessex.

Many of my recent projects are in Oxfordshire and is also a short commute from my home/workshop in Soulbury, Buckinghamshire.

This project in particular had several areas that had been damaged by water. In this case. a good sand down would rid the substrate of any blown mdf/timber.

These kitchens often look worse than what they actually are. This is where good preparation is key to achieving the best results possible. As an example, the 2 x sink doors above were quite badly damaged, this is due to a constant drip from the sink above. Eventually, water will break down the paint film and swell the wood underneath.

I always try to mention to any client the importance of wiping down the doors if there is excessive water on them. Kitchen cabinet painter Thame

On completion of the prep and painting, the water damage was fully repaired and looking new again. A decent high build adhesion primer was used over the newly sanded wood. This of course gives protection to the wood and a fantastic basecoat for the topcoats.

Once of the doors were re fitted, a few adjustments were made in addition to re setting the drawer runners to the right hand side of the sink. Beforehand, they were catching on the frame and didn’t close properly and had also take out a chunk of the tulipwood frame. This was also repaired and back to looking new again. These styles of in frame kitchens are especially good to work on as the hinge is concealed and has several areas that you can adjust for good alignment.

All in all a very pleasing project to do and also bringing it back to a new finish. Although these kitchens will last and will also take the every day usage that any kitchen has to take.

In conclusion

This is helped by the use of good quality primers and finishing paints. Knowing your products can be essential on projects like this. If you have confidence with the product you are using, you can guarantee that the end product will look like the professional finish that each client expects. Kitchen cabinet painter Thame
