Painting a Maple kitchen in Radlett, Hertfordshire

Radlett is situated on the ancient Watling Street, one of the oldest trackways in Britain. Various archaeological finds of Mesolithic and Neolithic flints provide evidence that the Radlett area was inhabited in the Stone Age; the land was densely wooded and remained so until the Middle Ages. The name Radlett appears to come from the Old-English rad-gelaete meaning a junction of the roads and it is likely that the settlement grew at the point where the ancient route from Aldenham to Shenley crosses Watling Street.

One thing that never fails to surprise me is colour choices by clients! This particular project in Radlett, Hertfordshire was a prime example of being adventurous with colour.

This kitchen was originally a maple kitchen. Over several years, the lacquer had taken on an orange appearance and it also looked really tired. Kitchen cabinet painter Watford

The cabinets were very well made, even though they were 20 years old!

The colours were from and old Dulux swatch that were picked out by the client. The reason behind the choice was from a family member in France had used similar colours and they loved the overall effect. Kitchen cabinet painter Watford

I had the colour mixed in Tikkurila intact 8 which is a low sheen and very durable enamel coating. All finished using a brush and microfibre roller. This in turn leaves a beautiful fluid even finish with no unsightly brushmarks. Kitchen cabinet painter Watford

One of the many benefits of hand painting is that the kitchen can remain operational during the painting process. Kitchen cabinet painter Watford

The combination of colours along with the pewter handles and oak floor all work in harmony. A fantastic transformation to this tired looking kitchen.

The dishwasher door on this kitchen had always been difficult to close and the alignment was always out! I made no promises, but said I would try and rectify the issues.

After a little bit of easing and also some minor adjustments to the feet of the appliance, the door was closing much better and the re  alignment meant that it matched the adjoing pull out bin. Kitchen cabinet painter Watford

All in all, a fabulous project to work on and the kitchen given many more years of use.

Another one saved from possible landfill!
