Painting a wooden lay on door kitchen in Aspley Guise

As we continue into the partial lifting of lockdown through this pandemic, I thought I would write a short blog on a kitchen that I painted 3 years ago.

In the current climate that we find ourselves in, the painting of your current kitchen is becoming more cost effective than replacing. The results are superb and much easier on the pocket and the environment. Kitchen cabinet painter Aspley guise

The photo below show the kitchen on day one whilst removing the doors and drawers.

After a brief discussion with the homeowners, a 2 x colour scheme was decided and also the painting of the stainless pull out doors each side of the hob would be painted.

This particular style of kitchen is easily taken apart, this gives a clean and precise finish when completed. kitchen cabinet painter Aspley guise

Once back to the workshop, a citrous cleaning agent is used to remove any surface contamination prior to sanding. A light sand with the Festool gives a good mechanical adhesion for the following layer of adhesion primer. This is an essential part of the process, one should never underestimate the preparation and the amount needed to get the job done properly!

On all kitchens that I undertake, I use tried and trusted products by Tikkurila. These give good adhesion and a beautiful even finish and sheen. They can be tinted to most colours and fabrics and are available in various sheen levels.

Once all the prep is complete, the painting begins. Primer followed by 2/3 top coats depending on colour. The topcoats are water based and have no toxic fumes. Also low VOC which is equally important for the environment.

As you see in the above photos, a lighter colour was used on the wall cabinets only. It gave a very contemporary look to this kitchen.

The handles where cleaned before they were put back on. Several of the doors and drawers were adjusted to make the alignment better.

All in all, a great transformation! The kitchen looked superb and the homeowners were thrilled with the outcome.
